Connect Claude

Claude reaches your library through a custom connector. Add it once in the browser and it is there in Claude on the web, in the desktop app, and in Claude Code.

Connecting an AI app needs an active plan or a library inside its first 7 days. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, only a workspace owner can add a custom connector, so the person who sets up the tools should be the one to do this.

What you need

  • A FactorIn login. Sign in, open Connected apps in your settings, and pick the Claude tab. The button there carries your connector URL.
  • The connector URL, if you are adding it by hand: https://connect.factorin.com/mcp.

Claude on the web and desktop

  1. Use your browser, not the desktop app. Claude’s desktop app loads a connector added on the web only after a fresh sign-in.
  2. Click Add to Claude on the Connected apps page. It opens Claude’s add-connector form with the name and URL already filled in.
  3. In the form that opens, click Continue, then Add.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Approve the connection when FactorIn asks. The consent screen names the libraries the connection will reach.
  6. In the desktop app, sign out and back in to see FactorIn.

If you would rather add it by hand: in Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it FactorIn, and paste the connector URL. The rest is the same.

Claude Code

Claude Code is Claude, and it runs its own sign-in from a loopback callback, so one command is the whole setup.

Claude Code opens your browser on first use. Approve the connection when FactorIn asks.

Confirm it worked

Ask Claude to list your libraries. It should name each one you can reach and whether it can write to it. Then paste the setup prompt from the Connected apps page, which is the first thing to do with a new connection. See Set up your library.

What Claude can do once connected

Read anything in your library by name, path or link. Search it by content and by name. List and follow your skills. Create notes, prompts, folders and skills. Save new versions of existing files. Upload attachments. Rename, move and archive. Nothing it does destroys content, and every write is a version you can roll back. The full list is in The MCP tools.

Disconnect

Open Connected apps in your settings and revoke the connection. That ends every session Claude holds. Removing the connector in Claude alone leaves the grant in place until you revoke it here.

If it does not connect

  • The form never opens. Open the connectors page in your browser rather than the desktop app.
  • Claude says the connection failed with no detail. The URL has to match byte for byte: https, the host connect.factorin.com, the path /mcp, no trailing slash.
  • Claude connects but sees no libraries. Your plan has lapsed or the library is past its first 7 days without one. The library is still readable in the web app and still exports whole. Choose a plan and the connection comes back.
  • Claude Code says the server is already registered. Remove it with claude mcp remove FactorIn and add it again.
